ATVM – Famine, Putrid and Fucking Endless

2026 02 23 IMG 1591.So here is my first post that isn’t some sort of stream of conscience.

Here is one of my more interesting finds from last year, which is a damn shame since they broke up this year.

ATVM is a prog death band from London. I found them just scrolling through bandcamp one day. That artwork was striking and I did not expect such awesome death metal. Famine, Putrid and Fucking Endless is a fantastic first album and one that the band should be very proud of. Jazzy, melodic, blasty, gutteral, riffs for days. It’s got it all.

Metal Archive says these guys are sonically closest to Death, The Chasm and Atheist. I definitely agree with Atheist and I can hear some Death influence in there too, but these guys really do put it all in a blender to create their own sound.

Also, I guess this will make me finally listen to The Chasm after all these years.

The songs tend to be longer, typical of prog bands of all sub-genres. But nothing ever overstays it’s welcome as far as my ears are concerned. These riffs just make me want to air-guitar through the entire thing – along with air-bass when the bass solos kick in. And I love these vocals. Deep, not too dry and lots of range. Almost reminds me of what Andrew Lee does in Ripped To Shreds.

Anyway, this album review thing is pretty new to me, so I am gonna end this here before it gets worse and go back to playing the album and enjoying my beer.

Wait, do I need to rate these things too? Man, I don’t know about that one yet. I would just say this one is good. I should use a three step scale; “Good”, “Indifferent” and “Bad”. That’s mostly how I look at things when it comes to music anyway. I guess I can add “Fantastic” and “Awful” to both ends of that spectrum to flesh it out a bit.

If that’s the case, I would put this at a Good+.

If you are interested in hearing it for yourself, here is the bandcamp page.

Come for the artwork, stay for the killer extended jams.
